As a child I learned to get through hard times by memorizing Bible verses. I would go right back to the beginning of the book and start reading, looking for something that made sense. Anything about love or justice or mercy was good, but I especially liked verses where God seemed angry.
I had heard about God’s anger all my life, but this was different. These verses were not about God’s anger at me. They were about God’s anger at things that were happening in the world, and how He would make it right again. They felt like medicine: bitter to swallow, but good for you in the long run.
